As a Staff Physician in the Emergency Department (ED) you will provide emergent and urgent medical care for all patients who present to the Audie L. Murphy Campus (ALMC) ED requesting care. The medical care includes stabilization, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of the full spectrum of conditions that fall within the scope of Emergency Medicine as well as Occupational Health as it relates to acute work related injuries and illnesses. The medical care will be provided in the outpatient setting of the ALMC ED.
Physicians are expected to obtain a comprehensive targeted history and then perform a comprehensive targeted physical exam. Physicians will order necessary diagnostic studies. Physicians will make preliminary interpretations of radiography and EKG's. Physicians will act on physical exam and diagnostic study findings in a timely manner. Physicians will coordinate care with consulting (if emergent necessity exists) and admitting providers as necessary.
The ED physician will co-manage with the admitting service admitted patients who remain in the ED awaiting transfer to the inpatient ward. Physicians will transfer patients as medically and administratively necessary. Emergency coverage Physicians may be required to participate in emergency preparedness activities and drills.
Work Schedule Physicians will work a minimum of 80 hours per pay period to include nights, weekends, and holidays unless on a leave status. P
hysicians will be placed in the on-call coverage pool for the ED, and therefore will occasionally be assigned to on call for the ED. Education Communication and Clinical Care Physicians may be required to supervise and/or teach medical students, residents, and/or mid level providers
