Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is one of the largest integrated health care systems in the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes facilities in Temple, Waco, and Austin, TX. Community-Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Brownwood, Cedar Park, Palestine, and Bryan-College Station.


The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System has an immediate opening for an emergency room physician. Formal training and experience in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice is preferred. This position is aligned under Ambulatory Care Service.

The facility is affiliated with Texas A&M University. Consultants in all specialties and subspecialties support the emergency department. There is management of acute stroke and acute coronary management in collaboration with Texas A&M and Scott and White Hospital. Responsibilities include duties in the Emergency Department (ED) and participation in the ED Emergency Preparedness Response.

The Emergency Department Physician is accountable to the Emergency Department Director and is responsible for providing effective delivery of outpatient care while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.

The duties include but are not limited to the following: Perform assessments/examinations on initial encounters with unscheduled, emergency and new patients. Coordinate patient treatment plan (involve specialists as appropriate). Order appropriate routine diagnostic tests and x-ray studies necessary to complete the evaluation.

Provide physician oversight to Emergency Department nurses and Emergency Department mid-levels. Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews. Recommend patients for hospital admissions.
