The physician serves as an addiction psychiatrist for the Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP), Opiate Treatment Program (OTP) and, in general, the Mental Health Division (MHD) of the VA Portland Health Care System. The psychiatrist’s primary clinical duties will involve providing direct patient care within the outpatient substance treatment program, opiate treatment program and general outpatient mental health clinics either in a primary or consultant role. The incumbent will be expected to provide supervision of academic affiliate addiction psychiatry fellows, psychiatry residents and medical students in the direct care of Veterans with complex psychiatric needs including substance use disorders. The psychiatrist will also be expected to contribute to VA’s research mission by supporting ongoing research in SATP and facilitating new projects in collaboration with investigators from VA Portland Health Care System and OHSU.

A physician in the Mental Health Division at the VA Portland Health Care System is a licensed, independent provider who is highly skilled in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a broad range of behavioral health problems. The physician will hold primary certification in Psychiatry, by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), and will additionally be Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry (ABPN) or Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
