The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences (QHS) at the Cleveland Clinic main campus is searching for a doctoral level biostatistician to grow and lead Data Coordinating Centers (DCC) of national multi-center NIH supported research studies. The QHS Department has 100 members, including 26 doctoral level statisticians or bioinformaticians, 50 masters level statisticians, 11 statistical programmers, as well as systems programmers and study coordinators. The Department, and specifically the Section of Clinical Trials and Research Design, currently leads DCCs for 8 studies primarily in renal, pulmonary and cardiac disease. This new position will enable these efforts to expand.
The candidate should have participated in and/or led Data Coordinating Centers (DCC). This person needs to be highly competitive in obtaining new NIH DCC grants and expanding our capability in this area. A doctoral degree with expertise in biostatistics, or a related discipline, is required. Candidates should have considerable experience collaborating on clinical research studies in an academic health care setting. Statistical methodologic research relevant to clinical trials is desirable. Excellent academic writing and communication skills must be clearly demonstrated, with verbal proficiency in the English language required.
- PhD in biostatistics, or related discipline.
- At least 6 years of experience as a biostatistician in a collaborative clinical research setting.
- A successful record in a leadership role in one or more DCCs.
- Demonstrated ability to design and analyze randomized clinical trials and/or observational studies.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate well with clinical researchers.
- Authorship of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating expertise in clinical research and use of advanced statistical methodology.
The successful candidate will help write grant applications, obtain funding for and lead DCCs as well as contribute to the study design and analysis support of these multi-center studies. Some teaching in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine medical students is available. Some independent PhD-level methodological research in a related area will also be expected. Master’s-level statistical support, and other support personnel, will be provided. The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience of the candidate.
