Pediatric Critical Care

The Department of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is seeking a fourth Pediatric Intensivist to join the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The Division currently has three full time intensivists, one part time intensivist and two Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. The current staff provides pediatric critical care at UMC Children’s Hospital, teaches Pediatric Residents, and pursues academic projects.                                                                

The Department of Pediatrics strives to provide the highest standard of medical care for pediatric patients from birth through adolescence, encompassing primary and sub-specialty care. The Department and UMC Health System are committed to ensure excellence in the education of medical students and resident physicians; provide the highest quality medical care for our pediatric patients; and serve as an advocate for pediatric health issues throughout the region and state. Other Pediatric Sub-Specialties Services include: Anesthesia, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hospitalist, Infectious Disease, Oncology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otorhinolaryngolgy, Pulmonology, Radiology, Surgery, and Urology.  Patient care includes attending to patients in the PICU, attending the Deep Sedation Service, and consultation to critically-ill pediatric patients around the hospital . The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UMC is a Med/Surg unit that has an average daily census of five.  The Burn Intensive Care Unit has an average daily pediatric census of one.  The Deep Sedation Service has an average daily census of three.

The UMC Children’s Hospital is a hospital within a hospital which has 24 beds on general pediatric floor and 42 beds in the Level 3 NICU. The PICU is a large 15 bed unit with many amenities. The PICU is staffed with an RN only staff.  UMC has a Level 1 Burn Unit where the intensivists provide expertise on mechanical ventilation and pain management for the pediatric burn patients and a Level 2 pediatric trauma center where the intensivists co-manages patients.  UMC Children’s Hospital is the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network hospital, has certified child life specialist and a pediatric playroom. We are a part of the Children’s Oncology Network of Hospitals.
