Basic Requirements
- Primary tour of duty will Monday - Friday 8:00am -4:30pm
- Only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy, Non-citizens may be appointed
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, OR
- An equivalent degree from a school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
- For foreign medical graduates not covered in the previous 2 bullets above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Preferred: Board Certification in Gastroenterology by ABIM.
Major duties/functions include, but are not limited to:
- Provides Gastroenterology related consultations, evaluating clinic patients, and performing routine procedures such as, but not limited to, diagnostic and therapeutic EGD, snare polypectomy, variceal hemostasis, flexible sigmoidoscopy, liver biopsy, total colonoscopy, PEG, esophageal dilation with guidewire, paracentesis, etc. for optimal care.
- Participate in staff evaluations, communications and counseling, if assigned by Section Chief of Gastroenterology.
- Will represent the interests of the unit to appropriate committees.
- Responsible and participate, if required, in educational programs for inpatient and outpatient unit personnel, update and develop inpatient and outpatient policies and procedures as required by the demands of the Gastroenterology section.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
- Increase efficiency and productivity throughout the gastroenterology unit.
- Other clinical duties as assigned within the service or other areas of the hospital as required
