VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is an integrated health care delivery system, offering a comprehensive array of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and extended care to Veterans in Northern California.

 

The Sports Medicine Physician - Located in Stockton, CA, is a needed member of the Interdisciplinary Amputee Clinic Team and Rehabilitation Service Team providing support in the delivery of care for our veterans. They participate in Service Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement, and Quality Management activities as directed by the supervisor/ PM&R Service Chief. Provides patient care in the Polytrauma/TBI clinic, other clinics as determined by departmental need, as well as by the providers' procedural skills and interest (e.g. procedure clinic including use of ultrasound), including occasional inpatient consults and care. In addition to performing direct patient care, the provider must be able to act as a physician leader, providing physician level clinical leadership and guidance in clinical settings.



The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of and alignment of work with all applicable VHA Directives, Medical Center Policies, standard work, etc. to ensure appropriate completion of assigned work.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of compliance with expected clinical operational and quality metrics.
  • Participate in selected committees as directed by the supervisor/ PM&R Service Chief.
  • Expected to participate in appropriate continuing education activities, as necessary to meet all licensing requirements and keep up with developments in the PM&R field.
  • Familiar with and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility.
  • Provide physiatry services as specified in his/her clinical privileges.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinators of the Polytrauma/TBI, amputee, EMG and procedure clinics.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor/ PM&R Service Chief regarding all resource management issues, including equipment, space, and educational opportunities etc.
  • Consults requesting Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services are performed in a timely manner and ensure results are made readily available to the referring practitioners.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor/ PM&R Service Chief.

Additional Requirement:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sports Medicine

Preferred Experience:

  • Possess experience providing outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation services focusing on nonsurgical care of injuries related to exercise and sports.

Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. You must have depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. A hearing aid is permitted.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Pay: $240,000-$300,000 annually- competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
