The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Thoracic Surgeon to join our team. This position involves providing direct surgical care to our veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings, assisting in the clinical education of surgical residents and students, and participating in administrative assignments. Direct patient care will include interactions with veterans, their family members, guardians, and significant others.

About The Team:

The Thoracic Surgical Integrated Care Team comprises CRNAs, RNSAs, Anesthesiologists, Chief of Surgery, O.R. personnel, Radiologists, Pathologists, Pulmonologists, Gastroenterologists, Oncologists, and support staff across the medical center and community-based outpatient centers (CBOC's). We emphasize minimally invasive surgical techniques, including advanced laparoscopic, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and robotic surgical approaches.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Instruction: Supervise residents and students in the operating room, outpatient clinic, and inpatient settings.
  • Patient Care: Evaluate patients, decide on treatment/care, document in electronic health records, and conduct postoperative follow-up.
  • Resident Supervision: Follow VA guidelines for resident supervision and documentation.
  • Postoperative Care: Ensure optimal patient condition post-surgery and assess recovery within 24-48 hours.
  • Clinical Procedures: Supervise bedside procedures appropriate to residents’ level of responsibility.
  • Call Coverage: Provide on-call support with a 15-minute phone response and 60-minute in-person response time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Regional Support: Offer specialty support through tele-medicine and referral-based consultations to other VA facilities in South-central Ohio.
  • Training and Education: Meet annual training requirements and support Graduate Medical Education with potential faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati.
  • Administrative Duties: Participate in committee memberships and represent the surgical service or hospital medical staff.
  • Independent Practice: Function independently as a clinical provider.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, offering an excellent work-life balance!
