Position Summary:

The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff. The Fayetteville VA Health Care System is seeking a board-certified physician with advanced clinical and leadership experience who has a strong working knowledge of PACT processes. Additionally, the incumbent needs to have a demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery, a documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs, management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with academic affiliates and other key stakeholders.

Functions/Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

  • Provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership.
  • Ensuring patient care is coordinated in accordance with professional standards and core values as it relates to ICARE principles and safe clinical practice.
  • Targeting performance improvement initiatives to address comprehensive care and wellness.
  • Directs the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the service.
  • Developing and administering performance plans and appraisals for subordinates as required by VA regulations.
  • Maintaining quality oversight of resources, equipment, and personnel in support of the operation of Primary Care.
  • Assuring services provided by Primary Care meets standards set by accrediting agencies which governs the quality of care for the Medical Center, to include, but not limited to the Joint Commission and the Office of Inspector General (OIG).
  • Responsible for the financial management of the service, including budget planning and management.
  • Collaborates with other service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Medical Center strategic and business plan.

 Clinical Duties:

  • He/she is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
  • Functions as an expert consultant in health promotion and disease prevention and uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs to promote healthy behaviors among employees. When coordinating employee health education programs, takes into consideration the age and developmental needs of employees.
  • He/she must ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
  • He/she is expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
  • He/she is expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.

PERFERRED EXPERIENCE:  5 years’ experience (preferred) in healthcare leadership and supervisory experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in project and change management, innovation, and process improvement/lean projects is highly desired.
