The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a Section Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Services. The position reports directly to the Service Chief and provides neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology and cytology diagnoses. Surgical pathology will include at least 80% of the cases in the area of subspecialty training.

The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Its a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to almost 69,000 enrolled Veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, rheumatology, geriatrics, Womens Health, and Dentistry.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for coordination, compliance, and quality management activities in Anatomic Pathology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, facility employees, and leadership
  • Ability to provide advisory, planning, and surveillance services to clinicians and laboratory management
  • Solve complex problems concerned with unique or controversial aspects of anatomic pathology
  • Autopsy responsibilities and oversight responsibilities in the Grossing Room.
  • Provide coverage for Clinical Pathology/Laboratory Medicine Services

Requirements:

  • Board Certified in Pathology (Clinical and Anatomic)
  • Five plus years of leadership experience preferred
  • Full and unrestricted license from ANY state
  • US Citizenship: Non-citizens may be considered when its not possible to recruit qualified citizens
  • Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language
