The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a part-time Ophthalmologist that comes with a dual appointment to the University of Tennessee as an academic affiliate.
The medical center consists of one main campus, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, a Womens Health clinic, and ten Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). It is a 1a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA healthcare system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of primary care, extensive surgical care, general cardiovascular, psychiatry, pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, rheumatology, geriatrics, optometry, and dentistry. Services are available to more than 200,000 veterans living in a fifty-three-county, tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Position reports directly to the Chief of Surgery
- Primarily provides outpatient services to include admission, work-up, diagnosis, consultation, and order/prescribing medications to treat ophthalmology patients.
- The position is responsible for operative and non-operative care for ophthalmology patients in an outpatient setting, inpatient care units, intensive care units, operating suites, telemedicine settings, and any area deemed clinically appropriate for the medical center to correct or treat conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the eye to include prescriptions of lenses and aids for low vision and surgical treatments; surgery on the orbit, extra ocular muscles, anterior and posterior segments of the eye and surrounding structures.
- Participates and supervises residents and cover all in an academic setting
- Provides consultative services for the Surgery Department

Requirements:
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Ophthalmology
- Full and unrestricted license from ANY US State or territory
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Be proficient in the written and spoken English language
