  • We are a well-established team of 6 faculty physicians, 2 fellows, 4 APPs, 2 social workers, a nurse navigator and a music therapist providing inpatient consultations and outpatient continuity care for a diverse patient population in a dynamic teaching environment.

  • We are active in clinical and medical education research as well as quality improvement work with multiple departments and divisions.

  • Physician-researchers are well supported by the Department of Medicines Research Core https://www.umassmed.edu/crc/.  With 80 principal investigators, the Department of Medicine secured over $83 million in funding in FY23. We rank in the top 30 of NIH-funded academic institutions.

  • Candidates with experience or interest in medical informatics and palliative care will find eager collaborators and resources for professional development in our internationally known Program in Digital Medicine https://www.umassmed.edu/pdm/.

  • We are working with community partners, population health and digital medicine experts on expanding palliative care delivery into community settings, with opportunities to build innovative models grounded in health equity and culturally informed care.

  • We offer myriad opportunities to teach fellows, medical students and residents and build skills in teaching/learning, assessment, curriculum development, evaluation and mentoring.

  • We are active members of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Palliative Care Quality Collaborative.  We partner with the Schwartz Center for Compassion in Healthcare and the Arnold P. Gold Foundation to promote humanism in medicine at our institution.

  • The ideal candidate will qualify for Associate Professor rank or greater but will consider Assistant Professor candidates with outstanding experience and leadership potential. Training in Vital Talk and/or Serious Illness Care Program attractive but not required. 

  • BC Palliative Medicine required.
