Physician (Occupational Medicine/ Employee Health/ Compensation & Pension) duties consist of but are not limited to the following:
- Primarily responsible for evaluations pertaining to Compensation and Pension examinations requested by the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).
- Perform in certain instances, state department examinations, veteran's insurance examinations and periodic or separation examinations of armed services military personnel.
- Is cognizant of the fact that he/she is engaging in forensic examination that may involve besides patient history and examination, review of extensive documents as needed that pertains to the patient's disability claim.
- Performs examinations to include history and physical findings and expanded single organ/system compensation and pension exams as indicated.
- Renders an opinion supported by facts to establish the presence or absence of disease or condition making patient eligible/ineligible for compensation and/or pension.
- Provides leadership in the operations Bay Pines VAMC Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension, including staff training, education, scheduling, and coordination of care within the multi-disciplinary health teams.
- Reviews, tracks, and evaluates quality improvement initiatives related to Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension.
- Participates and attends medical center committees as assigned by the Chief of Primary Care and the Chief of Staff.
- Actively stays informed of the status of Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension programs in the VA and disseminates pertinent information to clinical staff at the CWBY Bay Pines VAMC.
- May supervise Occupational Health Residents, medical students, or mid-levels in training.
