POSITION TITLE: HRPN Physician - Pathology

REPORTS TO: Chief Clinical Officer
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The duties of a Pathologist physician include but are not limited to rendering diagnoses based on gross and microscopic examination of human tissue or fluid removed from the body and providing medical supervision of the clinical laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to examine various types of tissues or body fluids grossly and microscopically
- Ability to incorporate clinical information as it relates to diagnoses
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
- Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to advise clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to clearly render diagnoses of human tissue or fluid removed from the body via gross examination, microscopic examination, special stains and immunohistochemical stains as appropriate
- Ability to provide intraoperative consultations (frozen sections, gross opinions, renal biopsy adequacies, non-gyn cytology adequacies) as needed during the routine operating hours of the surgery department
- Ability to know when to refer cases for additional testing at reference laboratories (ex: diagnostic consultations, molecular studies, cytogenetics, FISH, NGS)
- Ability to consult with the other providers as questions arise pertaining to anatomic or clinical pathology
- Ability to provide medical oversight to the clinical laboratory (ex: approve laboratory policies and procedures, review quality measures within the laboratory, evaluate potential transfusion reactions, interpret peripheral smears, evaluate acceptability of specimens submitted to the clinical laboratory)
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Perform bone marrow biopsies and aspirations (optional)

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- M.D. or D.O
- Successfully completed a combined residency in anatomical and clinical pathology
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Pathologist with 3 or more years of experience in general anatomical and clinical pathology
REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Board Certification in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or equivalent body at least once or
- Be eligible to sit for Anatomical and Clinical Pathology Boards by the American Board of Pathology and become board certified within 2 years of start date
- Anatomic or Clinical Pathology Board Certification alone may be considered depending on job duties (ex: Anatomic Pathology alone may be acceptable if not supervising the clinical laboratory)
- Active state medical license by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
PREFERRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Current board certification in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology
