Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Job Duties:

Diagnoses, treats and manages acute and chronic health conditions per the palliative care plan of care. Conducts palliative care consults as requested on all patient populations. Appropriately manages, monitors and adjusts patient care after initiating a treatment/prevention plan. Performs clinical practice in adherence to evidence-based practice and research. Performs appropriate medical procedures within scope of practice as defined by credentialing and privileging processes. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Provides after-hours call coverage. Refers patients requiring surgical procedures to other physicians. Responds correctly to patient related emergencies. Keeps current with hospital and practice standards of care including complying with mandatory education, completing CME requirements as required by federal and state regulations, Mercy, etc. On a timely basis, keeps and maintains appropriate records related to all professional medical services rendered. This includes documenting all professional services within the timeframes specified by MCI and Mercy. Seeks consultation and advice by providing adequate information to consulting physicians and communicates requests eectively and responds to such requests from the referral source in a courteous, professional, and timely manner. Documents according to established guidelines to facilitate ongoing quality of care in a timely manner. Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel. Actively participates in clinical quality improvement initiatives. Assists Mercy Clinics, Inc. and Mercy Medical Center to respond to a claim, threatened claim or litigation. Supports appropriate billing for professional service through timely documentation and maintaining adequate knowledge of billing policies and procedures. Actively and regularly promotes the practice in the community by participating in marketing, speaking and community activities/events as recommended or requested. Participates in community relations as appropriate. Participates in the training, orientation, and evaluation of support sta. Regularly attends and actively participates in sta meetings. Participates in community education and other professional activities to promote the palliative care program. Demonstrates open, honest communication and behavior. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect for all patients, their families, guests, and representatives of other organizations as well as fellow employees, volunteers, and medical sta. Maintains patient confidentiality and abides by all federal and state regulations in practice and billing. Demonstrates responsibility for individual performance and ecient utilization of practice resources. Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered. Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines. Teaches residents, medical students, mid-level and allied health professionals.

 

Required Minimum Position Qualifications: Doctorate in Medicine, Osteopathy, or foreign equivalent

 

Applicant must also have: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Iowa. Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Internal Medicine.
