The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS) is a multi-site medical system that includes a major medical facility in Manhattan, Brooklyn, St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). VA NYHHCS is an academic facility with teaching and research programs.

This Psychiatrist position is located in the Mental Health Service at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center. This position supports the Network's mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. Each Psychiatrist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Serves as Unit Psychiatrist / Medical Director of a 20 bed addiction residential rehabilitation program.
  • Provides diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders in the residential unit.
  • Provides Medication Assisted Treatment for patients with Substance Use Disorders, including medication for Opiate Use Disorders
  • Manges pharmacological detoxification in patients with Opiate Use Disorder and Alcohol Use Disorder.
  • Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program, performs on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
