The Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) Physician will provide the full range of medical care to acutely ill patients in an urgent care setting. This physician will also be required periodically to care for the residents in the Community Living Center (CLC), hospice and palliative care, and support the operations with the service, and meet the needs of the medical center.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Provides medical services to Veterans primarily in the Urgent care. Additional services as required by service needs may include to provide care for veterans admitted to the Community Living Center (CLC), hospice, and palliative care, or providing care in the outpatient setting to include HBPC (home based primary care) when required by supervisor, or service chief.
    • Complete minor procedures in the urgent care setting when needed.
    • Participates in the provision of Pain Management, Mental Health, completion of Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) consults, and End of Life Care to veterans as required.
    • Participates in the use of clinical practice guidelines, provision of standard of care to patients, and meeting relevant performance measures as mandated by VHA (Veterans Health Administration).

 

  • This physician will be providing care during after hours, nights, holidays, and weekends. Additional coverage may be required to cover staffing gaps at night, or during regular business hours.


Pay: Rate is determined by the service provided: Limited Service $325; Intermediate Service $650; Complex Service $1,300; Extended Service $1,375. Limited to the annual pay received by the President of the United States, currently$400,000, per 38 U.S.C. §§ 7410, 7431, 3 U.S.C. § 102, VA Handbook 5007, Part VII, Chapter 2, and VA Handbook 5007 Part VIII Chapter 16 & 17
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Intermittent, schedule to be determined on an as needed basis.

 

Requirements

    • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
    • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
    • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
    • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
    • Subject to background/security investigation.
    • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents). Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
    • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
