Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center has a CCS certified 17 bed Pediatric Ward along with being responsible for medical pediatric patients on medical/surgical units when not needing pediatric-specific care.  Along with the ward, there is an 8 bed PICU with 24/7 Pediatric Intensivist coverage.  KP Downey is a member of the Childrens Hospital Association and provides tertiary level care for the patients it receives locally and from other KP centers without pediatrics.  Staffing includes other Pediatric Hospital Medicine board certified teammates along with a full compliment of pediatric subspecialty support, with the exclusion of neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery which are transferred to one of our other pediatric centers.  Work includes a mix of days and nights, consults in our Emergency Department, rounding on newborns (though during the day there is a separate rounder), working with consultants along with committee work and other activities to give back to the community.
