Are you a dedicated Nurse Practitioner with a passion for pathology or eager to expand your clinical expertise in a dynamic hospital setting? We are seeking a skilled and motivated Locum Nurse Practitioner to support our pathology department at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, North Dakota. This vital role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient care during a maternity leave coverage period from February through April 2025, ensuring seamless pathology services for our community.

In this position, you will perform a variety of complex procedures including gross exams of biopsies and surgical specimens, staining frozen sections, and handling medical renal and muscle biopsies. The role involves working with experienced support staff in a fast-paced hospital pathology lab, managing approximately 75-125 cases daily. You will utilize Epic and SoftPath EMR systems to document and coordinate your work, while adhering to safety and procedural standards.

Required Skills:

  • Valid Nurse Practitioner license with a focus on pathology procedures
  • Ability to perform frozen section cases and complex surgical resections
  • Experience with gross examination of biopsies and specimen staining
  • Proficiency with EMRs such as Epic and SoftPath
  • Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle high case volumes
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Prior experience working in a hospital pathology lab
  • Additional certifications related to pathology or surgical procedures
  • Knowledge of medical renal and muscle biopsies

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or higher
  • Previous experience in a hospital or pathology laboratory setting
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner with relevant pathology experience

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Must be capable of performing frozen section procedures and complex surgical cases
  • No rounding involved; focused on procedural work
  • Credentialing is not required for this assignment
  • Willingness to travel and secure appropriate lodging and transportation
  • Emergency credentialing not necessary
