Requirements

  • Current board certification in one of the following disciplines:
    • PA-C (Physician Assistant-Certified)
    • AGACNP (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner)
    • ACNPC or ACNPC-AG (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of post-graduate experience in an inpatient neurology or hospital-based setting (stroke or neurological disorders experience preferred)
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • State of Michigan License
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skill

Duties & Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

  • Perform neurological assessments, obtain patient histories, and conduct physical examinations
  • Manage patients with acute neurological conditions in collaboration with the Neurohospitalist team
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests such as imaging and laboratory studies Respond to Code Stroke alerts and assist with time-sensitive interventions
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
  • Document patient care in the EMR (Epic) accurately and timely
  • Work closely other interdisciplinary care teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in quality initiatives and protocol-driven care for stroke and neurological disorders
