Full- Time OB Hospitalist – Certified Nurse Midwife-Orlando

General Summary

The Hospital-Based Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)/Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) practices in obstetric medicine to manage a caseload of patients with consultation, collaboration, and general physician supervision in a hospital-based setting. Care is provided within the APRN’s specialty, scope, and privileges. Using extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physiology, the APRN exercises independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical processes and procedures. The APRN participates in education, consultation, and research activities as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate pregnant and postpartum patients in OBGYN Women’s Triage.
  • Perform nursing duties related to midwifery including labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
  • Educate women on available care options and encourage active participation in pregnancy and birth.
  • Order, interpret, and incorporate diagnostic tests and lab results into care plans; assess effectiveness.
  • Formulate diagnoses based on history, physical exam, and clinical findings.
  • Provide care within policies, guidelines, and privileges.
  • Serve as an OB/GYN team member working collaboratively with physicians and staff.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies per privileges.
  • Emphasize patient education, communication, and individualized care.
  • Advocate birth education, natural childbirth, and family participation.
  • Teach patients about infant bonding, breastfeeding, and newborn response to environment.
  • Communicate and document case information in a timely, thorough manner.

Schedule Details

  • 14, 12-hour shifts per month (days and nights).
  • Primary campus: AdventHealth Orlando; coverage at Celebration and Winter Park as needed.
  • Participation in holiday rotation required.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of midwifery principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety methods for patient, family, and staff, including personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of family dynamics, mother-child attachment, parenting, and adult learning concepts.
  • Schedule available 3 months in advance.

Education and Experience Required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with Midwifery Certification.
  • 1–3 years of midwifery experience in a hospital setting.
  • Minimum three years of RN experience including high-risk Labor and Delivery.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required

  • Certification from an ACNM-accredited Nurse Midwifery program.
  • Current BLS and ACLS.
  • DEA licensure preferred but not required.
