The Advanced Practice Provider (APP)/Surgical First Assistant works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver high quality surgical care.
As an integral member of the primary surgical team, the APP is responsible for managing all aspects of patient care from admission through discharge. This role includes first assisting in the operating room and providing comprehensive care across the perioperative continuum, including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative support, postoperative management, and follow up care.
The APP utilizes a strong foundation in evidence based practice and patient education to promote an environment of safe, high quality care.
In the operating room, the APP functions in close collaboration with the attending surgeon and demonstrates advanced medical knowledge, clinical expertise, and technical proficiency. The APP exercises sound clinical judgment, maintains professionalism in all interpersonal and communication interactions, completes timely and accurate documentation, and assumes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) and Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification;
or
Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)
