Fairview is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurosurgery team within Fairview Health Services. This role supports neurosurgical services across the Twin Cities with coverage organized into South and East regional teams.

As a key member of the interdisciplinary care team, the Neurosurgery NP works collaboratively with neurosurgeons, critical care physicians, hospital medicine providers, and clinical staff to deliver comprehensive, high quality care to neurosurgical patients. This position offers a broad and dynamic scope of practice, encompassing inpatient care, operative support, and clinic responsibilities.

The NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages neurosurgery critical care and telemetry patients, contributing to both acute and longitudinal care plans. This role provides the opportunity to practice in a highly collaborative environment while developing expertise across varied clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Systematically assesses patients health status, arrives at appropriate diagnosis(es), and implements care plan for effective clinical outcomes.
  • Ensures assigned patients are properly and efficiently admitted and receive appropriate and responsive medical care according to their condition, symptoms and diagnosis. Develops a plan of care in conjunctions with other primary and specialty physicians and interdisciplinary staff to ensure quality care of patients. Communicates effectively with primary and specialist physicians.
  • Communicates with patients and families to explain diagnosis, procedures, expected diagnostic or therapeutic treatments, prognosis and/or recovery periods, and potential or expected outcomes; and to obtain informed consent. Proactively communicates with other clinicians in order to affect a coordinated and timely transfer of information necessary to advance quality care and outcomes for outpatients.
  • Collaborates, consults and communicates with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers and staff throughout the continuum of care.
  • Documents patients history and physical (H&P) exams, diagnosis, treatment, orders, and clinical progress in the chart, in order to allow for complete collection of comorbidity and complication information for use by hospital medical records and coding staff. Dictates discharge or transfer of care summaries to allow for timely communication. Returns pages and phone to clarify orders, arrange transfers, follow-up on tests and answer patient, family, and staff questions.
  • Provides care to the patients in the ICU as well as the step down and Med/Surg units within the scope of practice
  • First assist in the OR and procedures can be a responsibility for appropriately trained candidate

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited master s level or higher NP program
  • MN Advanced Practice RN
  • Certification by American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certification (APN, FNP, GNP) or by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC Certified Nurse)
  • Approved or eligible for prescriptive authority
  • Meets threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileging
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Assoc) *Ability to obtain and/or maintain. Required for Inpatient NP position

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2+ years of previous experience as a provider in neurosurgery, neurocritical care, etc is preferred
  • Doctorate
