The Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven Hospice & Palliative Care Physician to join our well supported, interdisciplinary team serving Americas Veterans. Position Highlights
- Provide inpatient and outpatient hospice & palliative care to Veterans with serious, advanced, and life-limiting illnesses
- Work within a dedicated 12 bed inpatient hospice unit (Togus Springs) on the VA Maine campus
- Four 10 hour day shifts, Monday-Friday
- Weekend home call only every 6-8 weeks
- Collaborative team environment with nursing, administrative, social work, and chaplain support
- Participate in program development, quality improvement, and expansion of palliative care services
- Opportunities to teach and mentor fellows, residents, medical students, and hospice staff
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive hospice and palliative care across inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, home hospice, and telehealth settings
- Manage complex pain and non-pain symptoms while supporting physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs
- Deliver inpatient and outpatient palliative care consultations, including goals-of-care discussions and end-of-life planning
- Participate in weekend on-call rotation and respond to after-hours needs
- Collaborate with an integrated interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care
- Teach, mentor, and supervise learners as part of Graduate Medical Education
- Support program development and ensure compliance with VHA standards and national hospice/palliative care guidelines
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary: $200,000-$315,000
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) eligibility up to $200,000

Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- U.S. citizenship required
- Board eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine upon hire; board certification within two years
- Current, full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
- Eligibility for VA credentialing and privileging
- Demonstrated experience caring for patients with advanced or life-limiting illness
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, or supervising trainees (preferred)
