Saint Lukes Hospital of Kansas City and Saint Lukes Mid America Heart Institute are seeking a dual-boarded Critical Care Cardiologist to join our growing cardiac intensive care program. This is a flexible clinical position ideal for a cardiologist with training and board certification/eligibility in both cardiovascular disease and critical care medicine, with an interest in caring for complex cardiac patients in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary environment.
Position Highlights
The successful candidate will work primarily in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, caring for a broad spectrum of critically ill cardiovascular patients, including those with:
Acute and advanced heart failure
Cardiogenic shock
Acute coronary syndromes
Complex arrhythmias
Mechanical circulatory support, including temporary MCS
ECMO-supported patients
Multisystem critical illness with cardiovascular disease
The position can be tailored to the candidates interests and may include opportunities for:
Inpatient cardiac critical care
Echocardiography interpretation
General or subspecialty outpatient cardiology
Collaboration with advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, imaging, and transplant teams
Program development, education, quality improvement, and clinical research

Candidates may build a role centered on the CICU, or combine critical care cardiology with imaging, outpatient cardiology, advanced heart failure, or other areas of interest.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a collaborative, clinically excellent physician who is comfortable managing high-acuity cardiovascular illness and working within a team-based model of care. Preferred qualifications include:
Board certification or eligibility in Cardiovascular Disease
Board certification or eligibility in Critical Care Medicine
Experience or strong interest in cardiac ICU care
Experience with mechanical circulatory support and ECMO
Experience with critical care procedures and skills including intubation, vent management, chest tube placement, arterial and venous access
Interest in multidisciplinary care, education, and program growth
Echo training or interest in echocardiography is welcome but not required, depending on the candidates desired role
