Physician (Rheumatology) – Salisbury, NC – Sign-On Bonus Available

The WG Bill Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center seeks a Full-Time Rheumatologist to provide comprehensive patient care across Salisbury, Charlotte, and Kernersville VA sites. Responsibilities include diagnostic evaluation, coordinating care, and ensuring effective delivery of services, reporting to the Chief of Medicine Service.


Key Duties:

  • Provide and coordinate comprehensive rheumatology care, consulting on inpatient/outpatient cases.
  • Communicate and document clearly with patients and staff.
  • Supervise and educate midlevel providers, residents, and fellows.
  • Perform and interpret relevant procedures (e.g., arthrocentesis, EKGs, musculoskeletal ultrasound).
  • Participate in quality assurance, meetings, and educational activities.
  • Support research, process improvement, and special projects as assigned

Academic appointment:
Successful candidates will be granted a faculty appointment at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with rank based on experience and academic achievements. Flexible protected time is provided to support educational and research activities within the clinician-educator-research track.

Additional Requirement: MD/DO with fellowship training Rheumatology.

Preferred Experience: Board certification through ABIM is preferred, though board-eligible candidates will be considered. Demonstrated leadership in multi-site or complex health systems is required, along with a strong commitment to education, patient outcomes, and continuous improvement. Sleep Medicine training or certification is desirable but not mandatory.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA policy.
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
  • Residency: Completion of residency in an accredited core specialty.
  • Board Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in Rheumatology.

Benefits:

  • Salary: $260,000–$315,000
  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular increases.
