Physician - Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Wake Forest Baptist, an 885 bed tertiary care academic medical center, partners closely with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, creating a strong environment for education, innovation, and clinical research. The program is structured to manage the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, from preventive and general cardiology to advanced interventions, heart failure, transplant, structural heart disease, and complex electrophysiology. This academic integration allows physicians to care for some of the most complex cardiac and vascular patients in the region while remaining engaged in teaching and scholarly activity. Programs include advanced heart failure and transplant, congenital heart disease, structural heart interventions, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular and endovascular surgery.

Education and training are cornerstones of the program. The institution maintains long standing, ACGME accredited fellowship programs in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery, and advanced practice provider cardiovascular fellowships.

The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was created in 2025. The Department transitioned from Internal Medicine to reflect the continued growth, clinical volume, and academic mission of cardiovascular services across the enterprise. The Section currently supports ~30 non invasive cardiology providers.

Siemens Alpha Photon CT scanner and other Siemens Dual source/dual energy scanners, GE 250 slice, and Siemens 1.5T cardiac MRI

Position Overview
Average weekly schedule includes 3 half-day sessions CT, 2 half-day sessions other imaging, 4 half-day sessions clinic, 1 half-day session admin

Robust clinical infrastructure, including Epic, Dragon dictation, and DAX ambient documentation tools.

Call & Weekend Coverage

Weekday and weekend call shared across NI faculty

On average, one weekend per month (Friday night to Monday morning)

On average, one weeknight every three weeks

Candidate Qualifications

BE/BC in Cardiovascular Disease
BE/BC Echo

BE/BC Cardiac CT (level III) and BE/BC Cardiac MRI (level II or III): Advanced training in cardiac CT and cardiac MRI with additional advanced imaging fellowship >= 1 year (either ACGME or non-ACGME 1 or 2 year program)  
Experienced in the pre- and peri-operative care of patients with valvular heart disease
Committed to active participation in a multi-disciplinary heart team, synthesizing and presenting multi-modality imaging data
Seeking an academically focused clinical opportunity utilizing the latest cutting-edge technology and engaged in clinical research
