Position Summary
The ThedaCare APC Medical Director Specialty Care is an APC leader who works as a dyad with the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) Medical and Surgical Specialties. They together work with designated Medical Directors and clinic site managers and/or operations partners to optimize performance of assigned provider groups. The APC Medical Director, Specialty Care reports to the VP, CMO Ambulatory Care. The medical director works collaboratively with ThedaCare executive leadership, clinical operation leadership, and clinical provider teams. The role of the medical director is to advance the mission and vision of ThedaCare and successfully operationalize the strategic priorities of ThedaCare through direct leadership and management of assigned provider groups.
Organizational Relationships:
- Reports directly to VP, CMO Ambulatory Care while collaboratively works alongside the ACMO Medical and Surgical Specialties
- Direct reports include assigned provider group from APC teams
Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively manage and develop relationships with the provider teams under their purview in order to achieve the following:
Quality and Safety:
- Assist with redesign of care consistent with the IOM’s 6 domains of quality, to ensure ThedaCare will deliver care that is safe, efficient, effective, timely, equitable, and patient-centered.
- Lead efforts to ensure ThedaCare performs at or above the top decile in quality benchmarks identified by ThedaCare and ThedaCare strategic priorities
- Lead efforts to improve patient experience for all patients served by ThedaCare
- Enhance care coordination between specialty groups within ThedaCare in collaboration with other physicians and APC leaders
Financial Performance, Growth, Innovation
- Facilitate provider template optimization to ensure patient demand and provider contract hours are being met
- Focus on opportunities for growth in market share and revenue
- Generate and present novel ideas for innovative processes and services
- Ensure accurate ethical coding practices by all providers
- Lead APC retention and recruitment effort for ThedaCare through applicant screening and interviewing, as well as final candidate selection working with our recuiting/retention team
Leadership
- Lead by example in demonstrating positive attitudes and behaviors as you are a leader and representative of ThedaCare
- Create an environment in which all staff members and providers feel empowered to realize their full potential in caring for the patients and families served by ThedaCare
- Demonstrate a firm commitment to harassment free work environment and fully embrace the principles of team engagement
- Support provider engagement and retention efforts
- Encourage and facilitate provider attendance at ThedaCare meetings and committees
- Lead APC centered meetings and other ThedaCare meetings as deemed appropriate by senior medical directors and/or the ThedaCare president
- Lead the orientation, onboarding and mentorship of new APC providers
- Provide coaching and mentoring for leadership development of aspiring APC leaders
- Perform regular performance reviews of providers as deemed appropriate by senior medical directors and/or the ThedaCare CMO Ambulatory Care
- Ensure compliance with all ThedaCare policies and assist with maintenance of appropriate certification through external agencies such as Joint Commission
- Participate in performance management of provider in accordance with the Provider Performance Management Policy when behaviors and attitudes fall short of ThedaCare standards and expectations
- Participate in additional meetings as deemed appropriate by ThedaCare CMO Ambulatory Care and/or ACMO
FTE and Time Commitment: This *** FTE Administrative role requires for the APC:
- Work at least 0.5 clinical FTE, and commit 4 hours per week to this administrative role per 0.1 FTE unit
- Commit to a minimum of 2 days per week devoted to the Administrative duties of this role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example, effectively communicate with diverse groups, promote shared accountability and facilitate change
- Licensure in the State of WI
- Board certification per the appropriate credentialing body
