RWJBarnabas Health is Recruiting a Chair for the Department of Radiology at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ

Scale of oversight: The Chair of Radiology at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) will oversee operations at the main hospital and all imaging operations at two outpatient facilities: the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) and Melchiorre Cancer Center.

This position is being actively recruited with support from Dr. Tej Phatak, Medical Director of Radiology at RWJBarnabas Health.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) draws adult and pediatric patients from across the state. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division is the seventh-largest kidney transplant program in the nation. The Regional Perinatal Center is New Jersey’s leading Level III, 56-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. CBMC, together with Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, provides patients with access to the most advanced cancer treatments, including clinical trials, cellular therapies, complex surgical procedures and sophisticated radiation therapy techniques.

The Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Radiology Department is part of a larger Radiology Service Line across RWJBH, which has nearly tripled in scale over the past three years and includes more than 60 radiologists. We are eager to recruit a dedicated, compassionate, dynamic, clinically engaged and service-oriented physician leader to lead CBMC Radiology as part of an integrated, multi-hospital team.

Melchiorre Cancer Center: The Melchiorre Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, serves as the northern destination for the integrated oncology services offered by RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Requirements:

• Subspecialty fellowship training in radiology, with strong, broad and up-to-date general radiology skills in X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI and fluoroscopy, as well as the ability to share in weekend diagnostic radiology shifts.
• Leadership experience with a record of recruiting, retaining and mentoring faculty.
• Leadership qualities include professionalism, self-awareness and listening skills.
• Experience collaborating across departments and with hospital leadership to effect change.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Administration:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Department of Radiology.
• Ensure alignment of departmental goals with the mission and vision of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and the RWJBH system.
• Supervise and support faculty, staff, and trainees in professional development and performance.
• In collaboration with CBMC operations and system service line teams, the chairman will lead and support departmental operations, including budget management, resource allocation, productivity, and policy implementation.

Clinical & Quality Oversight:

• Ensure high-quality, evidence-based radiologic care across all imaging modalities.
• Lead the department's quality, patient safety, and peer review programs, including oversight of OPPE, FPPE, case review activities, and departmental quality improvement initiatives.
• Lead the department's Quality Assurance Committee to review and improve clinical outcomes.
• Develop and implement annual quality improvement projects.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, ACR, CMS, state, and RWJBH quality and safety standards and policies.

Education & Residency Program Leadership:

• Provide oversight and leadership of the Radiology Residency Program in close collaboration with the residency program director and local site director.
• Ensure an excellent educational experience for residents, including mentorship and curriculum development.
• Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality faculty members for both clinical and academic roles.
• Foster an environment of continuous learning and professional development and ensure compliance with ACGME requirements.
• Prior experience working within a graduate medical education or residency program is preferred.

Committee Participation & Collaboration:

• Actively participate in hospital committees, including those related to quality, safety, and operations.
• Work collaboratively with medical and administrative leadership to enhance patient care services.
• Represent the Department of Radiology within the hospital and broader health system.

Research & Innovation:

• Encourage and support research initiatives within the department.
• Promote the adoption of new imaging technologies and best practices in radiology.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $650,000 to $750,000 per year.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
