Opportunity Overview

Kettering Health is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) to join our established Cardiothoracic Surgery team at Kettering Health Main Campus in Kettering, Ohio.

This opportunity offers significant operative involvement, inpatient responsibilities, and close collaboration with an experienced team of cardiothoracic surgeons and APPs. The incoming provider will support a growing program with responsibilities that include first assisting in open-heart and thoracic procedures, endoscopic vein harvesting, radial artery harvesting, inpatient rounding, and postoperative patient management.

Position Highlights

• Employment: Full-time, hospital-employed position

• Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts

• Primary Location: Kettering Health Main Campus

• Practice: Kettering Health Medical Group Cardiothoracic Surgeons

• Practice Address: 3533 Southern Blvd., Suite 5650, Kettering, OH 45429

• Call: Shared cardiothoracic surgery call

• Weekend Call: Approximately 1:3

• Evening Call: Varies based on operative cases

• Practice Team: 3 cardiothoracic surgeons and 2.5 APPs

• Clinical Support: 1 RN and 2 MAs

• Practice Hours: Approximately 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

• Practice Model: Primarily OR/procedural with inpatient responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

The Cardiothoracic Surgery APP will work closely with the surgical team across operative and inpatient settings.

Key responsibilities include:

• First assisting in cardiothoracic surgical procedures

• Endoscopic vein harvesting

• Radial artery harvesting

• Open-heart surgical assistance

• Thoracic procedures

• Robotic thoracic procedures

• Inpatient rounding

• Admissions and consults

• Postoperative management

• Bedside procedures

• Chest tube insertion

• Thoracentesis

• Responding to nursing and clinical support staff regarding cardiothoracic patients

• Supporting urgent operative needs when on call

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
• Current or eligible Ohio licensure
• Appropriate national certification
• Approximately 2+ years of cardiothoracic surgery or CT OR experience preferred
• Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting
• Experience with radial artery harvesting
• Experience assisting with open-heart procedures
• Thoracic surgical experience preferred
• Robotic surgery experience preferred
• Experience with bedside procedures including chest tube placement and thoracentesis preferred
• Comfortable managing postoperative cardiothoracic patients
• Ability to participate in evening and weekend call
• Ability to respond to the hospital within approximately 30 minutes when required
• Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care
