Schedule/Shifts Times:  Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm (3 days per week, may be able to work every other week full time)

Patient Ages:  adults

Types of Cases:

• Removal of skin tags, multiple fibro cutaneous tags, any area
• Shaving of epidermal or dermal lesion, single lesion, trunk, arms or legs, scalp, neck, hands, feet, genitalia, face, ears, eyelids, nose, lips, mucous membrane
• Excision, benign lesion including margins, except skin tag (unless listed elsewhere), trunk, arms or legs, scalp, neck, hands, feet, genitalia, face, ears, eyelids, nose, lips, mucous membrane
• Destruction (e.g. laser surgery, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, chemosurgery, surgical curettement), premalignant lesions (e.g. actinic keratoses
• Destruction of cutaneous vascular proliferative lesions (e.g. laser technique)
• Destruction (e.g. laser surgery, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, chemosurgery, surgical curettement), of benign lesions other than skin tags or cutaneous vascular proliferative lesions
• Cryotherapy (CO2 slush, liquid N2) for acne

**Resident Supervision/Teaching (will be responsible for supervision of residents)

Academic environment: Provide for an academic environment conducive to the training and professional development for residents rotating through the Internal Medicine/Dermatology Service.

Clinical Direction and Oversight: Contractor’s physician(s) shall provide clinical direction to and oversight of residents/fellows consistent with current accreditation guidelines, clinical research, protocol development, data management of protocols, quality assurance conferences and meetings, and affiliate /VA staff meetings. Ensure on-site resident supervision in accordance with the national VHA Directive 1400.01: Supervision of Physician, Dental, Optometry, Chiropractic, and Podiatry Residents

Attending Physician: Clinics/Dermatology procedures shall not be conducted by residents in the absence of an attending physician. All procedures, inpatient admissions and consults shall be the responsibility of an attending physician.

Most common cases/procedures: Skin cancers.  Shave, punch biopsies.  ED&C.  On Wed AM, wide local incision.  We outsource for Moh’s.

One other Dermatologist on staff.  We have 6 fee basis providers who cover various times in clinic.

Available support staff:  APN in clinic, full clinic staff-RN, LPN, schedulers

How many residents will the Dermatologist oversee at one time? 4 residents rotate on a monthly basis.  There are 3-4 residents each morning and 2 residents each afternoon (except Tue and Fri).
