Augusta Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its growing Hereditary and High-Risk Clinic. This outpatient role serves patients with a personal or family history of cancer, a known hereditary cancer risk, or other factors that may call for enhanced screening and prevention. The APP will help patients understand their risk and develop individualized plans in collaboration with the cancer care team and referring providers.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate new and established patients, including review of personal and family cancer histories and relevant medical records.
- Assess hereditary and other cancer risk factors and determine appropriate next steps using current clinical guidance.
- Discuss the benefits, limitations, and possible outcomes of genetic testing; order appropriate testing within the provider’s scope and clinic protocols.
- Review results with patients, explain their implications, and coordinate follow-up or referral when indicated.
- Develop and manage individualized recommendations for screening, surveillance, risk reduction, and preventive care.
- Coordinate care with oncology, breast services, primary care, and other specialists, and communicate recommendations to referring providers.
- Document assessments, test results, counseling, and care plans in the medical record.
- Provide compassionate, clear education to patients and families making decisions about cancer risk and testing.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current or eligible Virginia licensure and applicable national certification.
- Interest or experience in hereditary cancer risk assessment, oncology, breast health, genetics, or preventive care.
- Genetics certification or relevant specialized training preferred.
- Strong communication skills and comfort discussing sensitive personal and family health information.

Starting Salary $129,934

About the opportunity
The clinic has an established patient panel and receives referrals from both Augusta Health and community partners. The position is supported by an LPN and administrative assistant. The schedule is four 10-hour days per week, with patient volume varying by the mix of high-risk and genetics visits.
