Job Description
Join our Team at the Department of Veterans VA Medical Center in San Francisco, CA as a Physician – Pain Management!
The San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAHCS) Anesthesiology Service requires a Pain Medicine Physician, trained in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) with fellowship training in Pain Medicine, to provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative pain management services to Veteran patients, many with multiple co-existing diseases and complex chronic pain conditions. Duties include outpatient interventional and chronic pain clinic management, inpatient acute pain service consultation, and management of patients with implanted pain-management devices. The incumbent practices exclusively in pain management and does not provide general operating room anesthesia coverage.
Duties include but not limited to:
1. Acute Pain Service (Inpatient):
a. Inpatient consultation and management of patients on the Acute Pain Service.
b. Placement and management of lumbar or thoracic epidural catheters or peripheral nerve blocks or catheters.
c. Treatment of acute pain with intravenous or intramuscular injections.
d. Coordination of pain management plans with surgical, medical, and nursing teams for hospitalized patients.
2. Outpatient Chronic Pain Management Attendings with board certification in pain management may also have credentials for the following:
a. Assessment of, consultation for, and treatment planning for patients with chronic pain, including performance of history and physical examination.
b. Longitudinal management of patients in the outpatient chronic pain clinic.
c. Treatment of chronic pain via interventional procedures, and/or use of regional anesthetic techniques.
d. Development and oversight of multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial pain management plans in coordination with Pain Services, primary care, psychiatry/psychology, and other services as needed.
3. Teaching:
a. Supervision and education of Pain Medicine fellows, including direct oversight of fellow-performed procedures, case-based teaching, and evaluation of fellow clinical competency.
b. Participation in didactic teaching conferences for the Pain Medicine fellowship program.
