Job Summary
The Clinic Medical Director (CMD) has primary responsibility for the clinical oversight and medical management of the physicians assigned to the designated clinics. The CMD ensures that the care delivered by participating physicians and providers meets the standard for quality, timeliness, appropriateness, and variances in all the initiatives defined by InnovaCare Health. This includes but is not limited to documentation review, HEDIS gaps, medical cost initiatives, provider productivity, member satisfaction, and recruitment. The CMD would also participate in any dispute resolution with the staff, providers, and patients. The duties of the Clinical Medical Director include the following:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides medical treatment to patients.
Charts all patient interactions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Work closely with Medical Assistants to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
Communicate and works with medical staff to ensure coordinated efforts for the provision of high-quality medical treatment and client services.
Complies with ethical, legal & professional guidelines.
Complies with applicable regulations and with corporate policies and procedures to stay in compliance.
Complies with quality assurance for all medical issues and assists in the solution of any medical problems.
Contributes solutions to intra- and inter-departmental problems.
Protects clinic assets and property against loss or waste through negligence or dishonesty.
Participates in implementing special medical projects and services, such as on-site services.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
DUTIES OF THE CENTER MEDICAL DIRECTOR
1. Oversees and mentors assigned physicians in medical initiatives, care protocols, referral
management and care coordination with care teams.
2. Works directly with other clinic medical directors, care managers and utilization management staff to ensure appropriate patient access to care, that care meets consistent standards for quality, and that there is cost effective resource utilization.
3. Assists clinic administrators in the management of provider scheduling, optimization of clinic operations and utilization of reports to identify opportunities to improve care, service and cost-effectiveness for all providers he/she manages.
4. Actively leads the clinicians and clinical staff to gain UM/QI improvements in their clinic.
5. Helps prepare for and participate in the site clinic meetings.
6. Attends all assigned medical director meetings and other provider meetings as specified.
7. Participates in any assigned interviews for staff positions and new providers.
8. Partners with clinic and regional administrators to reduce medical costs and improve care outcomes.
9. Works with administrators to define and clarify business goals for each clinic and leads in the engagement of physician leaders to accomplish them. Participate in development and implementation of any new initiative.
10. Act as the liaison for any pertinent communication to their PCPs.
11. Provide mentorship to providers and help develop future physician leaders through education of the business as well as managed care.
12. Work cooperatively with and actively supports the OFP Compliance Program and initiatives.
13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned including attending huddles and clinic meetings.
14. Support all P&P and represent genuine citizenship in the clinics. In other words, be the example for all his/her clinicians.
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.); Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine preferred from a U.S. accredited institution or equivalent licensing required to comply to practice medicine in the U.S. in the instance of foreign graduate training.
Experience
Previous experience in primary care preferred.
EMR experience
Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus
Computer Literate
Licensure/Certification
Current/Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
Active/Unrestricted Board Certification or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and/or Geriatric Medicine.
