General Summary:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, the Aortic & Heart Valve Center PA-C will assist the surgeon with patients of cardiovascular disease related to aortic and heart valve disease in the hospital, clinic and OR.
  • Provide patient and family with pre-operative education, answer questions regarding surgery, recovery and risk factor modification.
  • Obtain and perform history and physical examinations.
  • Record and interpret pertinent data (labs, diagnostic studies, discharge summaries, progress notes, etc.) including writing orders and discharges.
  • First assisting in complex cardiac, aortic and heart valve procedures.
  • Ability to perform general peri-surgical procedures in the hospital and clinic.
  • Admit patients, attend rounds, complete discharge summaries with medication reconciliation and appropriate follow-up.

Schedule Details:

  • Monday through Friday
  • Weeknight on call responsibilities with rotating weekend coverage
  • Campuses covered: AdventHealth Orlando

Required Education/Experience:

  • Masters degree in physician assistant studies
  • Practicing experience as a cardiothoracic/cardiovascular surgery PA required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong medical decision-making skills

Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

  • Current, valid Florida PA-C license or ability to obtain
  • Accreditation by NCCPA or other nationally recognized certification organizations
  • BLS and ACLS
