The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) are seeking applications for the position of Medical Service Chief at the SFVAHCS and Vice Chair, Department of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. The SFVAHCS is one of three sites within the UCSF Department of Medicine, which also includes UCSF Health and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
The SFVAHCS Medical Service enjoys a long tradition of distinction in clinical care, research, and education. Clinical operations within the SFVAHCS Medical Service are robust and serve ~30,000 Northern California Veterans. In addition to providing oversight of clinical programs and serving in a major leadership role within SFVAHCS, the Medical Service Chief is charged with supporting and building our robust research and educational programs based at the VA. In research, the SFVAHCS is the top recipient of competitive NIH grants of any VA in the U.S. The VA is also a major educational site for UCSF students, residents, and fellows. Support for the SFVAHCS Medical Service Chief position will include substantial resources to sustain and grow our academic programs there. The Department of Medicine has separate divisions at each of its clinical sites, so all of the division chiefs based at the SFVAHCS report to the Medical Service chief.
To best meet the needs of our diverse patient population, trainees, and the city of San Francisco, we are specifically seeking applicants who demonstrate a unique contribution and commitment to diversity. We are committed to promoting the diversity of our physician workforce and to fostering an equitable and inclusive care and learning environment. We define diversity broadly, including but not limited to age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ability, first generation to attend college, disadvantaged social or educational environment, low family income, and lived experiences.
Applicants must be US citizens and board-certified, with a valid US medical license. Excellent clinical and communication skills are expected, and the successful applicant will have a track record of significant leadership roles, and eligibility for an appointment as Associate or Full Professor at UCSF. Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA. Information about the VA job application process may be found at https://vacareers.va.gov/job-application-process/.
