The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System (OCVAHCS) is actively recruiting a board certified, board eligible full-time permanent hospital employed Cardiologist to join our Cardiology department. The Cardiology Physician is accountable to the Chief of Cardiology Service.  The Cardiologist participates in inpatient and outpatient care related to cardiovascular diseases at the OKC VA including outpatient diagnostic testing non-invasive procedures. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to calls and residents/fellow education and training, and preceptorship to APRNs and PAs. Candidate will have experience and training in advance heart failure management, novel advanced pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. Candidate will apply national and VA guidelines to patient screening, surveillance, and management of cardiovascular diseases.  Additional duties include;

  1. Attending required staff meetings, communicating up and down the chain of command, and helping prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes. 
  2. Clinical Management including indirect patient care: open encounter and open consult maintenance, CPRS documentation requirements, monitoring of clinic management. Maintains involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns). 
  3. Patient Care: Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. 
  4. Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others. 
  5. Clinical Judgment: To ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care. 
  6. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. 
  7. Professionalism: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession. 
  8. Systems-Based Practice: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care. 
  9. If the incumbent is involved in research, they will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.

The OCVAMC is located in Oklahoma City, OK and is the “Flagship” for the Oklahoma VA Health Care System (OCVAHCS) - a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1b (medium complexity) facility. The Cardiology department serves patients across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care for more than 70,000 veterans in an area to include in 48 counties in Oklahoma 2 counties in North Central Texas. Work Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday 08:00-4:30

  • U.S. Citizens receive preference – non-U.S. Citizens may be considered.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Board Certified in Cardiology preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered. Additional board certification in Internal Medicine is preferred.

Starting pay is $350,000 per year.

  • A recruitment incentive will be offered, and there is potential for an annual performance bonus of up to $15,000.
  • Retirement: Federal Retirement Plan thru the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) - A three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan, with up to 5% government matching contributions

  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
