Cleveland Clinic announces a search for the Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery within the Integrated Surgical Institute. The Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery will lead expansion of clinical efforts in addition to advancing education and research activities related to the specialty of Plastic Surgery at Cleveland Clinics main campus as well as a growing, vibrant, and innovative regional practice.
The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery currently includes 24 Plastic Surgeons, leading a residency programs of 24 residents. In addition, the department supports four clinical fellows in Breast, Microsurgery, Craniomaxillofacial/Pediatrics and Aesthetics. The Plastic Surgery Research program supports two research fellows and several international supported researchers in addition to a clinical research coordinator and director of an on-going microvascular laboratory course. Innovation across the breadth of surgery is the reputation of the Cleveland Clinic and an essential culture of the Department of Plastic Surgery. From advancements in Face/Abdominal Wall/Hand/Orbital Transplantation to innovations in wound healing, neuromodulation, immune tolerance and organ preservation, the departments vision is to continue to assist in leading and advancing the practice of Plastic Surgery.

It will be paramount that the individual possesses the skills necessary to lead and grow a large and complex department with a multi-faceted mission and multiple stakeholders. Board certification in plastic & reconstructive surgery is required. A faculty appointment commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
Job Profile Summary:
Reporting to the Institute Chief, responsible for setting and ensuring enterprise-wide Safety, Quality & Patient Experience standards for a given specialty. Primarily focused on long-term strategic planning for Institute service lines and serves as the lead physician executive for an enterprise specialty, partnering with Institute, market, and shared services leaders to set and deliver on the vision and strategic goals of the specialty and the Cleveland Clinic. Responsible for setting the vision for research, education, and innovation for a specialty across all markets. Leads a team of specialty physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in the specialty, influencing and inspiring others to achieve results through relationship building and diplomacy. Supports an engaging and safe work environment for caregivers within specialty. Responsible for overseeing physician conduct across all markets with Institute Chief and Market Chief of staff. Ensures delivery of consistent world class patient care across the enterprise for designated specialty.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes enterprise-wide standards of care for a specialty including consistent care paths, outcomes, patient experience, and approach to treatment across all markets. Sets and coordinates specialty standards with Institutes, markets, and care delivery sites. Provides clinical direction and oversight in a highly matrixed organization while ensuring inclusivity.
- Develops end-to-end enterprise strategic priorities for a specialty, spanning clinical care, research, education, and innovation. Creates a vision and provides leadership and support to specialty providers in their pursuit of excellence in patient care, education, and research. Ensures alignment between department strategic plans and enterprise strategic priorities.
- Partners with market leaders to support the market strategic planning process to achieve integrated care delivery, research, quality, innovation, and education. Establishes and drives towards strategic growth goals for specialty within each market.
- Oversees and assures high quality, research, innovation, and education programs across the specialty. Represents the needs of the specialty Physician and Advanced Practice Provider community to the Institute Chief.
- Ensures the highest quality of professional practice and provides clinical expertise to assist local sites in quality reviews and adherence to care paths with Division Chair if applicable. Supports local leaders in monitoring adherence to standards and clinical outcomes within the specialty. Ensures appropriate clinical outcomes data and physician level performance metrics are provided to allow for effective management of provider clinical performance.
- Responsible for specialtys financial performance regarding patients served and salary management. Works with markets to understand and support organizational budget needs related to all other financial matters. Adheres to the Corporate Compliance Program and expectations including but not limited to proper billing, completion of compliance training and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
- Leader for provider recruitment in partnership with markets and the Office of Professional Staff Affairs. Reviews and approves plans and expenses involved in the recruitment of providers. Participates in negotiation of compensation requirements for new and current providers, assuring these requirements are fair, equitable and within budget guidelines.
- Liaises with governmental bodies and regulators where appropriate to ensure adherence to regulations across markets and care delivery sites.
- Oversees domestic Staff across the enterprise within their specialty area. Direct reports include all domestic senior leaders such as Division Chairs. Works with respective leaders for faculty development with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Leads people in a complex environment, setting meaningful goals and ensuring accountability in achievement. Selects top talent and builds leadership succession through development and coaching. Optimizes caregiver experience to retain engaged workforce focused on patient experience. Manages the administrative procedures regarding the annual professional review for providers within the Department.
- Strengthens Cleveland Clinics commitment to the respective community we serve. Works with media and marketing team to drive reputation and growth strategy. Works with the Institute Chief to engage with donors and philanthropic efforts.

Education:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
