IHA is seeking a full-time, experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Hospitalist program as Lead Advanced Practice Professional (APP) located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Lead APP of IHA, Hospital Medicine - Ann Arbor, is charged with leading the hospitalist advanced practice team at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (SJMAA). The Lead APP will report to the IHA Site Medical Director (SMD). In addition, the person will coordinate with the Division Head of Hospital Medicine (DH), the Practice Manager of Hospital Medicine, and SJMAA leadership to guide the APP service in providing quality patient care and service to both internal and external customers.
The Lead APP will support the Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, the Hospital, Division Head, and the Hospital medicine Division in the following:
- Promotes professional growth, development, and successful performance of all Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice Professionals.
- Actively supports recruitment and orientation of new Hospitalist APPs.
- Provides oversight for the timely and equitable completion and distribution of Hospitalist APP work schedules.
- Attend monthly hospitalist team leadership meetings, monthly hospitalist meetings, monthly night provider meetings, and works with the Practice Manager to coordinate quarterly APP meetings.
- Provides guidance, mentoring, and coaching in conjunction with the essential job functions as identified in the IHA Hospitalist APP position description.
- Collaboratively designs, implements, and monitors clinical processes and helps build clinical teams with clear roles and expectations that support the delivery of outstanding patient care.
- Acts as liaison between hospitalist APP group, hospital leadership and Trinity Health IHA Medical Group leadership.
- Demonstrates the value of IHA Hospitalist APP program to SJMH, and Trinity Health IHA Medical Group leadership.
- Directly communicates effectively and in a timely manner with Hospitalist APPs to continually update, engage, and educate the hospitalist APP team.
- Manages program operations in coordination with SMD, DH and Practice Manager of Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, Hospital Medicine to build APP schedule to ensure service is fully staffed.
- Supervises the overall activities of the Advance Practice Professionals on all the inpatient internal medicine services.
- Conducts biannual provider performance evaluations, periodic coaching sessions, orientation programs, and improvement/teaching plans designed to maximize providers potential.
- Conducts disciplinary actions, attendance review, provides feedback to APP staff.
- In collaboration with the Practice Manager, coordinate APP student schedules.
- Reviews patient complaints and adverse event reports (related to APPs) generated through reporting system, performs chart reviews when asked by DH, and shares with providers and IHA hospitalist leadership.
- Meet regularly with leadership of STAT RN/RRT meeting.

Interested candidates must have three years of clinical experience in the inpatient setting with preferred prior experience in a leadership capacity; be board certified; and hold a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan; position is dependent upon successful credentialing at SJMAA. Membership in Society of Hospital Medicine is also required.
